Ingredients For Bengali Fish Curry

  • Salt – 2 tsp
  • Turmeric – 1/2 tsp
  • Fish steaks – 6
  • Onion chopped – 2 medium
  • Fresh ginger – 1 tsp
  • Garlic – 10 small cloves
  • Green chilies – 2
  • Water – 2 cups
  • Coriander seeds – 2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • Dry red Kashmiri chilies – 4
  • Mustard oil – 1/3 cup
  • Fenugreek seed – 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp

Methods

  1. At first, take a plate and put the fish in it. Mix salt and turmeric together and rub them all over the fish. Cover them and keep them aside for 30 minutes before cooking.
  2. Now grind them ( onion, ginger, garlic, and green chilies ) into the paste gradually adding water to it.
  3. After that, grind finely coriander, and mustard seeds, and red chilies.
  4. All the things are done. Now let’s heat our pan.
  5. Heat the oil in the pan on medium heat for about 2 minutes. After the oil is heated nicely, add our marinated fish to the oil.
  6. Fry them on both sides till you see the light golden (about 3 minutes on each side).
  7. After it’s done remove them and add the remaining fish. Fry them the same as we did earlier without adding oil.
  8. Well as for the remaining oil in the pan, add the remaining red chili, fenugreek, cumin, and remaining mustard seeds.
  9. Now add mustard seed and fry them for some seconds. After that add onion paste and ground spices. Stir-fry them for about 4 minutes until it changes the color into slightly dark. Add the remaining salt and water. Bring to boil on high heat so that all the masala can be cooked properly.
  10. Now reduce the heat to low. Cover it and simmer for 10 minutes.
  11. Add the fish steak into the curry and bring to boil on medium heat.
  12. As for the final step, reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer them for 10 minutes.
  13. Your Bengali Fish Curry is done. Serve them hot with rice.
